Wyoming – Yellowstone National Park: 3rd Visit (Hayden Valley, Canyon Village, Fishing Bridge) (Aug 6 2017)

Another day at Yellowstone and another area. As we mentioned, we broke up our trips by areas. On Sunday we went to Hayden Valley and the Canyon Village area.

Hayden Valley is where you want to go to see a large team of Bison. They are all over the hills and even cross in front of your car because they have no fear of the cars. Of course, the bison is plentiful all through Yellow Stone as well as Tetons so we won’t bore you with the hundreds of pictures we took of the bison but here is one of a bison and her calf (with many in the background).

Nearby the Valley is the Mud Volcano. The Mud Volcano is surrounded by sulphur smells. We were supposed to walk up clock wise but we were at the middle trail (next to you are here) and  missed the far left trail. So we roughed it up the hard part of the trail. Remember to go far left if you come to this trail as the right trail is strenuous. Of course if you do this, the Mud Volcano will be the last thing you see. Here is our trip (counter-clockwise).

First the Mud Volcano Area.

From there you will see Grizzly Fumarole- where it looks like a grizzly footprint.

Then you arrive at the Sour Lake. You think it this looks like a great place to take a swim but the water is like battery acid and you will get burnt.

Then off to Black Dragon’s Caldron another mudpot around since 1948. Named Black Dragon because there is a fear that it may erupt and “roar back”.

Churning Caldron was next.

and finally the Mud Geyser.

From the Mud Volcano, we headed to the Upper Falls. The amount of water in this area was amazing and force and strength of the falls was incredible.

This is at the top of the Falls.

And a short hike/drive to the Lower Falls.

All of this water forms the Yellowstone Grand Canyon.

Not far from there of course would be the birds- this one being a Osprey.

On our way out, we again saw many cars pulled over and  we were lucky to see this herd of Elk. Even got to see the young male elk with his antlers starting.

At the Canyon Village where we stopped for Lunch, Mike had to take a picture of this old car which is used for tours.
